Automattic — Year In Review 2016

Howdy! We’re the people behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, and a bunch of other products for WordPress. We are passionate about making the web a better place. We don’t build software for free –– we build it for freedom. Our goal is to democratize publishing and commerce so that anyone with a story or idea can share it with the world regardless of income, gender, politics, language, or location.
We believe in open source and the vast majority of our work is available under the GPL. We also contribute to a number of non-profit and open source projects, like WordPress.org, BuddyPress, the P2 theme, and WordPress for Android and iOS.
Our team is spread across the world
New Automatticians this year
We believe that the more perspectives we embrace, the better we are at engaging our global community of users and developers. Read more about our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Automatticians Age 40+
Oh, the places we’ve been
We meet up a few times a year for team bonding, projects, and goal setting.
Communication is the lifeblood of a distributed company. It keeps our hearts pumping. In 2016 we primarily used P2 blogs, Slack, and Zoom. Read more about remote communication.
